🏢 BIG IDEAS FOR THE OLD POLICE STATION! ARCADE? AXE THROWING? YOU TELL US! 🎯

We’re exploring possibilities for the old police station building — whether renting or selling it to the right person or investor. My vision is to see it become something community-oriented — maybe an arcade, indoor golf lounge, or another fun spot where folks from Tuckerman and surrounding communities can enjoy low-cost entertainment without driving to Jonesboro.

Right now, there’s not much local for people to do. With the right business plan and investment, this could be profitable for our community while giving adults and kids something positive and fun to enjoy.

I’ve even thought about this being a group effort instead of a solo venture. Let’s get creative and think outside the box!

📍 About the property:

1,280 sq. ft. building

Sits on 0.70 acres

Asphalt parking lot

Backup generator

Plenty of space for indoor activities

Potential for a putt-putt golf course or other outdoor fun in the back

I’m open to tours of the building and property — just schedule with the Mayor’s Office.

Let’s work together toward a productive future for our town — giving our community something to do, keeping our youth engaged, and building a place we can all be proud of.

💡 Drop your ideas below — no idea is too big or too small!

Clearing the Air on City and Utility Funding

I want to take a moment to address some questions and rumors regarding city projects, water, sewer, and how funds are managed in Tuckerman.

First, I understand that many residents continue to experience issues with our water and sewer systems. I share your concerns and want you to know that I am actively seeking solutions and funding to address these long-standing infrastructure challenges. These problems did not develop overnight—they are the result of decades of wear, neglect, and underinvestment. While they will take time to fix, I am committed to finding lasting solutions.

It’s important to understand how the City of Tuckerman and Tuckerman Water & Sewer (TWS) operate financially. While TWS is owned and operated by the city, it is a separate entity with its own budget and revenue. TWS funds are used for water line replacements, sewer line maintenance, and the chemicals needed for both plants.

The City of Tuckerman’s budget is separate and comes from state turnback funds, franchise fees, sales tax, and our dedicated street fund (used exclusively for street upkeep and repairs). State auditing rules do not allow these funds to be mixed.

Because of this separation, no money from either TWS or the city was used to build the Farmers Market. That project did not take away from funds that could have been used for water or sewer repairs.

I live here too, and I experience the same inconveniences you do. My promise is that I will continue listening, seeking funding, and working toward the improvements we need. Progress may feel slow, but it is happening—and I ask for your patience as we move forward together.

Dear Residents,

Our small town has always been a place where we come together to care for one another, including the animals in our community.
Over the past few months, we have faced an overwhelming influx of stray dogs and puppies. Our dedicated team and volunteers have
worked tirelessly to feed, water, and provide care for these animals, ensuring they are treated with kindness and compassion. We even organized an “Adopt a Pet” event in hopes of finding loving homes for them. Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to secure adoptions or relocations for any of these animals. As a small rural town with limited resources, we are now faced with an incredibly difficult decision. Due to the lack of adoptions and the strain on our capacity to provide ongoing care, we have reached the point where we must consider veterinarian administered humane euthanasia for these animals.

We encourage anyone who is able to adopt, please contact the City Hall (870) 349-5313 as soon as possible. Additionally, if you have any ideas. Adoptions are free and require only a simple application to ensure these animals go to a loving, caring home.

Good morning, Tuckerman residents.

We are aware that some of you may be experiencing discolored or tinted water. While we understand the frustration—especially given our town’s history with similar issues—please know that the current situation is the result of routine maintenance being performed on the city’s water system.

Specifically, maintenance is underway on the clarifier, which plays a critical role in removing suspended solids from the water supplied by our city well. This process is essential for keeping our system running efficiently and safely.

I’ve been informed that the discoloration should resolve within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, we recommend avoiding washing white clothing until the issue is fully cleared up.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to maintain and improve our water system. Thank you for your continued support.

🌐 Exciting News from the City of Tuckerman!
We’re thrilled to announce that our brand-new city website is scheduled to go live on Friday, July 18th, pending final preparations!

This new platform is designed to improve communication between City Hall and our community, making information more accessible and easier to navigate. Once live, the site will feature updates such as a live feed, event calendar, photo gallery, and access to the City’s Code of Ordinances (following completion of the codification process).

But that’s not all! Within a few weeks of the website launch, we’ll also be introducing a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices—similar to the app used by our local school district. This will provide another great tool for staying informed through real-time alerts, updates, and important notifications.

We appreciate your patience as we make this transition and look forward to offering a better, more connected experience for all residents.

It’s an exciting time for Tuckerman! 🏙️📱💻

Today was nothing short of amazing! Over 50 animals received love and care through vital services like vaccines, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention, and even microchipping. We couldn’t have done it without the incredible help of Dr. Nanci Solis and her husband from Thousand Hills Veterinarian Clinic – thank you for your dedication and compassion. A special shoutout to Mrs. Diana and her daughter Megan, the powerhouse duo who made everything run smoothly. You two truly ran the show. If you missed out today, don’t worry – we’ll be holding these clinics quarterly, so stay tuned for future dates. Unfortunately, no adoptions happened today, which means we still have amazing dogs waiting for their forever homes. Please help us spread the word or come meet your new best friend.

🐾 As we get ready for tomorrow’s Low-Cost Vet Clinic, we’re excited to share that we have several adorable pups available for adoption! 🐶💙 We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to "In Loving Memory of Shaina Nicholson" for the generous donation of 30 multicolored collars and leashes. Shaina had a deep love for animals—especially her two cats, Yewshi and Bandit, and her two dogs, Prue and Itsy. 🐾❤️ 👉 Adopting a pup is completely free! A simple dog adoption application is required. Once approved, each pup will go home with a leash and collar. The City of Tuckerman will cover the cost of spay/neuter, microchipping, and a round of vaccinations. 📢 Why Didn’t Tuckerman Get Grant Funding? 💧💵 I get asked this a lot — “Why didn’t Tuckerman receive any grant money?” Here’s one real-world example that helps explain: 👉 The Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Small Water System Grant is designed to help public water systems serving fewer than 10,000 people who meet specific affordability criteria. These grants help small towns make improvements they otherwise couldn’t afford. ✅ Eligible Projects Include: • Water meter replacement or upgrades • Generator quick connections at treatment plants • Planning/design for regionalization or consolidation 📊 Eligibility is based on income and water rates. To qualify, towns must meet one of the following: Annual cost for 4,000 gallons of water must be ≥ 1.5% of Median Household Income (MHI) OR ≥ 51% of residents must be low/moderate income and the water rate must be ≥ 1.25% of MHI 🔍 In Tuckerman: Cost for 4,000 gallons/month = $44.10 Yearly cost = $529.20 MHI = $42,500 $529.20 ÷ $42,500 = 1.24% That 1.24% just misses the 1.5% threshold, so we don’t qualify for this grant. 📌 Bottom line: These calculations and data points—like population and income—come directly from the U.S. Census. That’s why it’s crucial that everyone fills out their census accurately every 10 years. It directly affects our town’s ability to receive funding. Let’s keep working together and stay informed. Every number counts when it comes to building a better Tuckerman.
