Our crews are continuing to replace old sewer lines as funding allows. Many of the existing concrete lines are starting to fail, allowing rainwater to infiltrate the system. This infiltration contributes to flushing issues during heavy rainfall. Although our budget is limited, we are making steady progress.

Public Notice Regarding North Jackson County Rural Water Association (NJCRWA) Customers

Attention NJCRWA Customers:

If your bill resembles the example shown, this information applies to you. The City of Tuckerman Water System (TWS) supplies water to the North Jackson County Rural Water Association (NJCRWA) under contract, as outlined in Resolutions 2009-09 and 2009-10, along with the related operation and maintenance agreement.

Please be advised that NJCRWA is an independent entity with its own governing board and president. Per direction from NJCRWA leadership, the City of Tuckerman and I, as Mayor, do not have the authority to make adjustments to NJCRWA customer accounts without their prior approval.

As a result, approximately 160 NJCRWA customers may experience higher bills this month. For questions or concerns regarding your bill, please contact:

Mr. Jay Haskett, President – (870) 217-3888 (voicemail available if call is not answered)

Other NJCRWA Board Members – Farrell Hutchins, James Cossey, and Marvin Rutherford

Please understand that neither my office, nor the staff who collect payments on behalf of NJCRWA, are authorized to make adjustments or resolve account matters for NJCRWA customers. We respectfully ask that frustrations not be directed toward city staff, who are simply carrying out their duties.

If your bill is blue and you reside within the city limits of Tuckerman, those accounts fall under the City of Tuckerman Water System, and my administration can assist you directly within reason.

For transparency, copies of the resolutions and contracts are available for review at City Hall. NJCRWA’s financial records are also public and can be accessed online. They are also supposed to hold public meetings similar to city council, and customers are encouraged to attend, participate, and hold their board accountable.

The City of Tuckerman remains committed to serving its residents, while also honoring the contractual agreements in place with NJCRWA. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation on this matter.

🏢 BIG IDEAS FOR THE OLD POLICE STATION! ARCADE? AXE THROWING? YOU TELL US! 🎯

We’re exploring possibilities for the old police station building — whether renting or selling it to the right person or investor. My vision is to see it become something community-oriented — maybe an arcade, indoor golf lounge, or another fun spot where folks from Tuckerman and surrounding communities can enjoy low-cost entertainment without driving to Jonesboro.

Right now, there’s not much local for people to do. With the right business plan and investment, this could be profitable for our community while giving adults and kids something positive and fun to enjoy.

I’ve even thought about this being a group effort instead of a solo venture. Let’s get creative and think outside the box!

📍 About the property:

1,280 sq. ft. building

Sits on 0.70 acres

Asphalt parking lot

Backup generator

Plenty of space for indoor activities

Potential for a putt-putt golf course or other outdoor fun in the back

I’m open to tours of the building and property — just schedule with the Mayor’s Office.

Let’s work together toward a productive future for our town — giving our community something to do, keeping our youth engaged, and building a place we can all be proud of.

💡 Drop your ideas below — no idea is too big or too small!

Clearing the Air on City and Utility Funding

I want to take a moment to address some questions and rumors regarding city projects, water, sewer, and how funds are managed in Tuckerman.

First, I understand that many residents continue to experience issues with our water and sewer systems. I share your concerns and want you to know that I am actively seeking solutions and funding to address these long-standing infrastructure challenges. These problems did not develop overnight—they are the result of decades of wear, neglect, and underinvestment. While they will take time to fix, I am committed to finding lasting solutions.

It’s important to understand how the City of Tuckerman and Tuckerman Water & Sewer (TWS) operate financially. While TWS is owned and operated by the city, it is a separate entity with its own budget and revenue. TWS funds are used for water line replacements, sewer line maintenance, and the chemicals needed for both plants.

The City of Tuckerman’s budget is separate and comes from state turnback funds, franchise fees, sales tax, and our dedicated street fund (used exclusively for street upkeep and repairs). State auditing rules do not allow these funds to be mixed.

Because of this separation, no money from either TWS or the city was used to build the Farmers Market. That project did not take away from funds that could have been used for water or sewer repairs.

I live here too, and I experience the same inconveniences you do. My promise is that I will continue listening, seeking funding, and working toward the improvements we need. Progress may feel slow, but it is happening—and I ask for your patience as we move forward together.

Farmers Market new brick work

Dear Residents,

Our small town has always been a place where we come together to care for one another, including the animals in our community.
Over the past few months, we have faced an overwhelming influx of stray dogs and puppies. Our dedicated team and volunteers have
worked tirelessly to feed, water, and provide care for these animals, ensuring they are treated with kindness and compassion. We even organized an “Adopt a Pet” event in hopes of finding loving homes for them. Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to secure adoptions or relocations for any of these animals. As a small rural town with limited resources, we are now faced with an incredibly difficult decision. Due to the lack of adoptions and the strain on our capacity to provide ongoing care, we have reached the point where we must consider veterinarian administered humane euthanasia for these animals.

We encourage anyone who is able to adopt, please contact the City Hall (870) 349-5313 as soon as possible. Additionally, if you have any ideas. Adoptions are free and require only a simple application to ensure these animals go to a loving, caring home.
